I love the music of Jim Brickman. He plays the piano gloriously and one of my favorites is a CD of his called Faith. Two of those songs remind me of my Lutheran childhood. In Windom, Minnesota we lived across the street from the Lutheran church and every morning they would start worship with “Holy, Holy, Holy” and it always reminded me of the importance of worshipping together. Also one of my favorites on this CD is “Mighty Fortress” which is written by Martin Luther (both the music and text). It is sweet because it reminds me of the Lutheran faith I was raised in and it is bittersweet as it was played at my father’s funeral in 1979. Take a moment and reflect on some of your favorite hymns and why they inspire you.
